Pisa vs Inter, the complete guide

Inter return to Serie A action on Matchday 13, facing Pisa at the Arena Garibaldi Romeo Anconetani. Kick-off is scheduled for Sunday 30 November, at 15:00 CET. The Nerazzurri arrive in fourth place, level with Bologna on 24 points. So far this season, Inter have secured eight wins, scoring 26 goals and conceding 13.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

The history between Pisa and Inter in Serie A is marked by distinct phases, with the numbers today leaning clearly in the Nerazzurri’s favour. Inter have won each of the last five league meetings with the Tuscan side, the most recent coming on 3 March 1991, decided by a goal from Nicola Berti. Before that run, however, the balance had been far tighter: across the first nine encounters, Inter had taken three wins, alongside three draws and three defeats. Looking at results from the first half of the season, Inter have a solid record against Pisa, collecting six positive results in seven matches (three wins and three draws). The only defeat dates back to 1 November 1987.

On Sunday, Inter could reach a symbolic milestone: becoming only the second team after Juventus to score at least 30 goals against Pisa in Serie A. The Nerazzurri currently sit on 29 goals from fourteen meetings – an average of more than two per game.

CHIVU’S INTER: THE NUMBERS

Inter boast the highest average number of completed passes in Serie A, with 475 per match. Only Como hold a marginally higher possession percentage, while the Nerazzurri sit at an impressive 60% on average – a figure that highlights their ability to control tempo and territory. It also stands in stark contrast to Pisa, who are bottom of the league in this category with just 38%.

Chivu’s side are equally dangerous in the air. They have already scored five headed goals, placing them joint-top in the league alongside Cremonese. Squad depth and attacking variety are reflected in the distribution of goalscorers: eleven different Inter players have found the net in Serie A so far, a league-leading tally shared only with Bologna and Juventus. It’s a statistic that illustrates both versatility and unpredictability.

THE CAPTAIN’S STATS

Sunday’s trip to Pisa could add another milestone to Lautaro Martínez’s remarkable scoring record. The Argentine has already found the net against 28 different opponents in Serie A and could become the first player in the modern era to reach 29 – a position he currently shares with Ciro Immobile.

The Inter captain also leads the league for attempts in the opening half-hour of matches this season, with 18 shots taken inside the first 30 minutes.

CALHANOGLU AND THURAM ON TARGET

Hakan Calhanoglu’s impact in 2025 is clear from the numbers: six league goals in the calendar year, a tally bettered only by Lautaro Martínez among the Nerazzurri. His output away from San Siro has been particularly valuable – no Inter player has scored more on the road this year, with three goals, a figure matched only by the captain himself. His precision, personality and long-range quality remain essential assets for Inter.

Marcus Thuram, meanwhile, comes up against a newly promoted side, the kind of opponent he has often punished. He has scored five times in his last eight matches against teams coming up from Serie B, including his strike in Inter’s most recent away game against a newly promoted club, at the Tardini against Parma on 5 April. With his ability to stretch defences and link play, the Frenchman remains one of Chivu’s most potent attacking threats.

THE OPPOSITION: PISA

The Tuscan side, coached by Alberto Gilardino since the start of the season, currently sit 16th in the table on 10 points, the product of one win and seven draws. They have scored 10 goals and conceded 16. Pisa have picked up seven points from their last five league games, beating Cremonese 1-0 at home and drawing the other four. Remarkably, their meetings with AC Milan, Torino and Sassuolo all finished 2-2, while they also held Lazio to a 0-0 draw at the Arena Garibaldi.

For Sunday’s match against Inter, Gilardino is expected to stick with a 3-5-2: Semper in goal; a back three of Caracciolo, Albiol and Calabresi; a midfield featuring Touré, Piccinini, Aebischer, Leris and Angor; and a strike partnership of Moreo and Nzola.
