Pitbull concert ‘to force’ Zalgiris Kaunas to find new home for Champions League tie | OneFootball

Zalgiris Kaunas may have to move their home second leg in the Champions League second qualifying round on 29 July because their stadium is booked for a Pitbull concert.

According to The Guardian, the Lithuanian club rented out the Darius and Girėnas Stadium for the rapper’s show on Friday 31, and the 15,000-capacity venue is unlikely to turn around both events in time.

UEFA lists the return match in Lithuania at 18:00 on Wednesday 29 July against KI Klaksvík from the Faroe Islands.

The club looked into reversing the order to play the first leg at home then travel for the return, but that appears difficult. The Faroe Islands’ national day falls on 29 July, and another team from the archipelago has a Europa Conference League qualifier on 30 July, stretching local logistics.

Zalgiris should therefore play in Jonava, roughly 30 km away, at a ground that holds 2,500.

The president voiced regret over the situation, while stressing that concerts provide major stadium income and a welcome occasion for residents. Lyon faced a similar scare in 2023-24 with a Taylor Swift date at Groupama Stadium, though a late surge to sixth meant the play-off was not required.
