PSV lost their first Europa League match of the season to Arsenal, being beaten 1-0 in a match in which they struggled to create much.

They spent the majority of the game in their own half, looking to frustrate their opponents, but their resistance was broken 20 minutes before the end when Granit Xhaka scored the winner.

Here’s how well we think every player performed…

Walter Benitez, 8 – It was thanks to him that it was only 1-0, with the Argentine making seven saves, some of which were excellent.

Phillip Mwene, 6 – Generally defended well and had a few good moments going forward.

Andre Ramalho7 – Made some really good interceptions and tackles at the heart of the defence.

Armando Obispo, 6 – Didn’t do too much wrong throughout the night.

Phillip Max, 5 – Was the weakest link in the PSV backline and didn’t make an impact at the other end.

Erick Gutierrez, 6 – Defensively sound but toothless with the ball at his feet.

Ibrahim Sangare, 7 – More than held his own in midfield, winning the ball and moving his team up the pitch a number of times.

Joey Veerman, 5 – Was invisible for much of the match, struggling to make any impact.

Xavi Simons, 7 – Easily PSV’s most dangerous player going forward, causing Arsenal problems with his running.

Guus Til, 4 – Couldn’t hold up the ball for his team-mates or pose any threat.

Cody Gakpo, 4 – A disappointing performance from the captain, who was easily kept quiet by the Arsenal defence.

Jordan Teze, 5

Luuk de Jong, N/A
