The match

Lyon dominated the early proceedings, and their pressure was rewarded in the opening seven minutes as they were awarded a penalty for a handball. Pavel Sulč stepped up to the spot, hoping to score his first goal for the Rhône club. However, his penalty was tame, and Schlager managed to deny him with relative ease.

The Salzburg stopper would soon come crashing down to earth. Just three minutes after he saved the penalty, a loose pass played out from the back found Adam Karabec. The Czech playmaker did well to remain composed and find Satriano in the area, who did brilliantly to guide the ball home via a diving header.

Mata was almost punished for being too casual on the ball as he tried to backheel the ball to Greif. Vertessen was lurking, and if it wasn’t for the speed of Greif, the Angolan international would have been rather embarrassed. The Red Bull outfit grew into the game as the half went on, but it was Les Gones who led at the break.

Kluivert doubled Lyon’s advantage early in the second half. Karabec’s cleared corner landed back where it started, and the attacking midfielder’s inswinging cross was met by the Dutchman, who rose highest to head beyond Schlager. Tolisso went close to extending his formative club’s advantage as he cut across the ball, but his volley went narrowly wide.

In the final twenty minutes, Salzburg began to threaen more. Bosnian teenager Kerim Alajbegović looked the most threatening for the visitors and forced Greif into two saves with efforts from distance.

Playing out of position, the Czech international struggled to influence the game on the left flank. In addition to his poorly taken penalty, which was saved, his best moments were when he drifted inside, leading to an imbalanced attack for OL.

Martin Satriano – 6

Adam Karabec – 8

Responsible for creating both of Lyon’s goals, the Czech international made a real impression on the game. The Sparta Prague loanee caused problems for Terzić with his positioning and showed supreme vision with two pinpoint crosses, which were headed both home.
