Marculeta played for Real from 1928 to 1934, then joined the then Athletic de Madrid for two seasons. Around then, Argentine midfielder Peña Iriarte made six Real appearances before two campaigns at Atlético.

Pérez Payá broke through at Real in 1950, then joined Atlético that summer, scoring 14 in 26. Keeper Zubiarrain went from Real’s 1966 promotion to Atlético in 1969, winning La Liga in 1970 and 1973.
