Former Corinthians forward Léo Jabá has become the focus of a row in amateur football in São Paulo state. Palestra Novo Itu were docked 12 points for fielding him in the Campeonato Especial de Itu, which meant elimination.
Ge.globo reports that the Liga Ituana’s Disciplinary Commission removed the points from the four matches he played, citing his ongoing TJD-AD suspension and doubts over a possible professional link to São Bernardo. The ABC club said he no longer had an active contract before Jabá agreed to play in the amateur tournament.
The sanction stood after Palestra appealed, dropping the team to sixth in Group B and out of the knockout phase. On social media, the club criticised the ruling, arguing he was registered on time and that the competition rules do not forbid players suspended for doping.
In a statement, the board called the punishment unjust, questioned the disciplinary process and said it is weighing legal action against the Liga Ituana. The case has stirred local amateur football, not least because Jabá had played in other São Paulo tournaments without similar issues.
Jabá was banned from professional football for four years by the TJD-AD in December 2025 after testing positive for norandrosterone and noretiocolanolone while at São Bernardo following a 2-0 loss to Corinthians in the 2025 Paulista. He had been provisionally suspended since March 2025, which will be credited, so he can return from 16 March 2029 aged 30.
The findings indicate nandrolone use, an anabolic steroid banned under the World Anti-Doping Code. Despite his professional ban, he has competed in amateur events and played seven-a-side in the Kings League for Funkbol Clube last year.
