Any football fan can't help but agree that past impressions made are difficult to be forgotten. Then, be it of a former star player or a player's past brilliant form.

Hadn't it been so, maybe Napoli wouldn't have been interested in Southampton star Yukinari Sugawara amidst his turbulent season. But they are, and all because of his past Alkmaar heroics.

Interestingly, in a similar fashion, destiny has decided to be a bit gentle on Southampton loanee Adam Armstrong.

Well, I know, there's a mixed feeling for Armstrong among the St. Mary's faithful. Still, one can't deny the forward's Championship contributions for the Saints. In fact, having scored the playoff goal, it was through him that Southampton secured the 2023/24 promotion.

Otherwise, also, Armstrong has been top-notch in the English second division. Let it be for the Saints, Blackburn or somewhere else then.

And Armstrong's reward for this? Well, if reports are to be believed, West Brom has continued to back him despite his underwhelming loan spell.

As per EFL Analysis, transfer correspondent Graeme Bailey has updated how the Baggies feel about Armstrong's future.

Southampton could benefit most from West Brom's Armstrong trust

Speaking on the forward's Southampton connect, Bailey said: “Two goals have arrived and I am told West Brom like him beyond just a loan. Armstrong does expect to leave, but again, let’s see who arrives at Southampton."

Well, they say, luck favours the brave. And finally, this time, Southampton could be on the winning end.

Why so? In this situation, nothing could have been better for the Saints than West Brom backing Armstrong for a permanent switch. After all, a transfer is what Southampton had been praying for long for the forward.

Just witness this, days ago, the Saints feared Armstrong's future and now they find themselves a step ahead in their plans. That surely shows, how fast things change in football.
