The family of Leeds United supporter Michael Hewitt, known as Mick, 65, have appealed for information after he went missing while travelling via Barcelona. “Please just let us know that you’re safe. Everyone’s looking out for you,” his brother Gary said.

As reported by yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, an app shows he checked into a Barcelona bar on Saturday, June 20, and his last WhatsApp to a friend in Leeds came in the early hours of Sunday, June 21. He has been uncontactable for about 10 days.

He had told family he would travel to the US after a two-night stopover in Barcelona to watch England face Ghana in Boston on June 23, though it is unknown if he boarded the onward flight.

“We just want someone to tell us whether he actually left Barcelona,” he said. “Are we looking in the right country? Are we concentrating on the right part of the world? It’s this pretty serious nothingness that’s killing us.”

The family say they have been told only Interpol can access passport and border data, and progress has been slow despite repeated calls to the consulate and the Foreign Office.

Fans across clubs have shared appeals, and West Yorkshire Police confirmed a missing persons report on Sunday, June 28.
