Michael Hewitt, 65, has been missing for around 10 days, his last known contact a WhatsApp message from Barcelona in the early hours of Sunday, June 21.
"To see a family member, a picture that you’ve supplied, pop up on the telly as a missing person… it’s a hell of a blow." As reported by yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk.
A beer-rating app shows a check-in at a city bar on Saturday, June 20. He had told family he would travel via Barcelona to watch England play Ghana in Boston on June 23, though it is unknown if he boarded a flight from Spain.
As a long-standing Leeds and England supporter, he often arranged football trips himself and kept details private. Gary said this journey was booked late, with a two-night stop in Barcelona before an onward flight to Boston.
The family’s pressing question is whether he ever left Barcelona for Boston. "We just want someone to tell us whether he actually left Barcelona," he said. They say progress has been slow despite repeated calls to the consulate and the Foreign Office.
Leeds United fans, England supporters and fans of other clubs have rallied to share appeals and messages. West Yorkshire Police confirmed they received a missing persons report on Sunday, June 28.
His family’s message is simple: "Please just let us know that you’re safe. Everyone’s looking out for you."
