Former Plymouth Argyle boss Derek Adams has returned to the club as Director of Football.
Plymouth have confirmed that former manager Derek Adams has returned to the club as Director of Football.
Many expected the Pilgrims to be in the mix for promotion following their relegation from the Championship last season, but they have endured a dismal start to the campaign under new boss Tom Cleverley.
Argyle are bottom of League One, and a 3-1 reverse at Huddersfield Town on Saturday made it four defeats on the bounce. However, despite calls from supporters for Cleverley to go, the ex-Watford head coach has received backing from the owner, and he remains in place.

The club have decided to make a major change to the off-field structure though, as it was announced that Adams had joined as Director of Football.
The update explained that his role will be to ‘manage the men’s first-team structure and support Head of Football Operations David Fox and Head Coach Tom Cleverley, providing strategic guidance rather than day-to-day coaching responsibilities’.
Adams is a popular figure at Home Park from his time in charge, with the Scotsman enjoying a four-year period in the dugout from 2015, during which time he led Plymouth to promotion to League One.
So, it’s a decision that has gone down well among the supporters, who recognise that Adams will be desperate to help a club that is close to his heart.
But, there was one common theme among the reaction, as many wondered if he would be replacing Cleverley at some point in the future given their struggles…
Another fan echoed the same feelings about Adams, who has been out of work since leaving Morecambe earlier this year.
This supporter joked that Adams' would want to succeed Cleverley as he prepares for his new role.
Meanwhile, this fan shared their delight at Adams returning to the club.
However, the decision wasn't popular with everyone, as this fan descibed it as a 'panic' decision by the club.
It's clear that something needs to change at Plymouth, and whilst most would have expected Cleverley to have gone by this stage, it is admirable in a way that the club are sticking by the head coach.
Of course, this form can't go on forever, but they thought he was the right man a matter of months ago, and they are willing him to get through this tough patch.

As you would expect, Adams' return has got people talking about whether he will take over in the dugout in the future, and it's the first thought that many would have had.
But, you would think Cleverley is on board with this appointment, and having an experienced figure who has seen a lot in the game could be what he needs.
