The Greens are looking to add to their forward line in the coming days, and are looking to reunite themselves with Ryan Hardie.

Tom Cleverley is looking to add to his squad in the final days of the January transfer window, after an up-turn in form for Plymouth Argyle in the last few weeks.

The Pilgrims are unbeaten in their last six league games, a run that stretches back to December 29, and they have climbed the League One table at an exceptional pace throughout this month.

However, with just eight points separating the Devonshire outfit and the final play-off place, those at Home Park will be keen to close that gap in the coming weeks and months. But, more firepower in the forward positions will be required to help them in this push.

Now, Plymouth are targeting a former player to help recreate the memories of the 2022/23 League One campaign, yet there is competition from both Bolton Wanderers and Bristol City.

Plymouth Argyle seeking deal for Wrexham's Ryan Hardie

As first reported by Marc Iles of the Bolton News, the Pilgrims are one of the clubs that are looking at securing a deal for Wrexham striker Ryan Hardie, just months after he departed Home Park in favour of a move to Wales.

The 28-year-old has played just six times for the Red Dragons so far this season due to both selection policy and a battle with a knee injury, with manager Phil Parkinson favouring the likes of Kieffer Moore over the Scottish forward, and now it looks as though he will end the campaign away from the Racecourse Ground.

However, Plymouth are not the only club keeping a keen eye on Hardie, with Pete O'Rourke reporting on Thursday that Bolton are leading the race for the Stranraer-born ace, where he would re-unite with his former head coach Steven Schumacher from his Home Park days.

Bristol City are also keen on the services of the ex-Blackpool man, but their ambitions may be somewhat higher having landed windfalls for new Ipswich Town man Anis Mehmeti and a sell-on clause from Antoine Semenyo's transfer to Man City.

Plymouth Argyle know all about Ryan Hardie's talents

Hardie left Argyle after they were relegated to League One in the summer, bringing a five-year association with the club to an end, having originally joined the Greens on loan in January 2020.

It was at Plymouth where the forward played his best football, and he was vital in their promotion to the Championship in 2022/23, scoring 13 goals and registering four assists in 44 league games. A year later, he would prove himself in the second tier, and without his goals, relegation would have followed.

Nevertheless, after another solid campaign in the Championship last time out, in which he scored 10 times as the Pilgrims dropped back into League One, he caught the eye of Wrexham and looked as though he was going to be rewarded by playing for a side pushing for a top-half finish.

However, it's been difficult for Hardie to get the game time that he needs to prove his talent, and a return to Plymouth would be the perfect way for him to show the Red Dragons what they are missing.
