Plymouth Argyle manager Tom Cleverley has been slammed by a Pilgrims supporter during the club’s recent Fans’ Forum.

After suffering relegation from the Championship last term, the Home Park outfit look to be in real danger of suffering that same fate in the third-tier.

The Pilgrims are currently 23rd in the division having played 17 matches and already look embroiled in a battle to avoid the drop.

Plymouth have lost 11 league matches thus far, including five of their last six outings. Despite their worrying position and apparent inability to turn things around, manager Tom Cleverley has remained in position without too many concerns surrounding his future.

The 36-year-old was relieved of his duties as Watford manager at the end of the previous term due to a disappointing end to the season, which saw the Hornets drop from play-off contention to 14th come May.

Some Argyle supporters have run out of patience with their boss, citing his lack of experience and horrific results as clear reasons to relieve him of his duties. This came to a head at a recent Fans’ Forum, where one fan in particular took aim at Cleverley.

Plymouth Argyle recently held a Fans’ Forum, which allowed supporters to speak directly to some of the club’s higher-ups and ask questions about what plans were for the future.

Chairman Simon Hallett, CEO Paul Berne and director of football Derek Adams were all present. Given how poorly Argyle have been playing recently, attention soon turned to Cleverley’s future as manager.

One fan didn’t leave anything on the table when discussing the 36-year-old’s tenure and demanded that changes be made immediately.

“Tom Cleverley is possibly, or not possibly, but is the worst manager in the EFL from January 1st this year,” stated the Pilgrims fan. “His second part of the season last year with Watford. They would have finished below Plymouth Argyle if they hadn't had a stern start to the front of last season.

“So why anybody thought that he was going to come here and do a good job for Plymouth Argyle is beyond me. If you look at the 11 months of fixtures that Cleverley has overseen with Watford and with Plymouth Argyle, the bloke just hasn't got a clue. I mean, and as for you people at the front there, particularly the chairman, who is turning around saying what a great guy he is.

“I think the guy is a complete and utter loser as a manager. There's no identity in our team. We have lost five league games at home by the end of November.

“Five league games. I can't remember in 50-odd years of watching Argyle when we had lost five home games by the end of November. The guy needs to go and you guys need to clear your heads up the front there and do something about it.”

Plymouth Argyle need to make a Tom Cleverley decision sooner rather than later

The Pilgrims should be commended for giving a young manager time to fully get to grips with his squad instead of demanding instant results, but the threat of relegation may prove too much for many supporters.

If Plymouth drop from the Championship to League Two in successive years, it will be viewed as a tragedy, especially after the Home Park outfit managed to retain their second-tier status during their first term back in the division.

What may anger fans more is if Cleverley is allowed to stay until the point of no return. Clearly, things need to change at Plymouth for them to fight back up the league, and that may mean a new approach in the dugout.
