FLW's Plymouth fan pundit shares their thoughts on the potential permanent arrival of midfielder Herbie Kane this summer

Plymouth Argyle have continued to persevere under Tom Cleverley, and as a reward for sticking by their head coach, the Pilgrims are within touching distance of the play-off places with just three games to go.

It's certainly been a rollercoaster of a year in Devon for Plymouth supporters.

At one stage, fears over a potential relegation to the fourth tier came to light after an awful run of form saw the club sit in the relegation zone for a few weeks, with Cleverley's role at the helm coming into serious question.

Owner Simon Hallett could have very easily pulled the trigger on Cleverley, but instead, he stuck by the former Watford boss, which has paid dividends, with Plymouth sitting just two points off the top six with three games to go.

Plans for the summer window will be beginning to take shape at Home Park, despite not knowing which league they will be playing in next season, as the club will have to decide on whether to make a bid for a loan player who has struggled with injuries but impressed whenever he has got on the field.

Plymouth Argyle must decide whether to pursue a permanent swoop for Herbie Kane from Huddersfield Town this summer

Herbie Kane joined Plymouth in January on loan from Huddersfield Town, having struggled with injuries during his spell in West Yorkshire.

The 27-year-old will be entering the final year of his deal with the Terriers at the end of the campaign, and Plymouth must decide whether to go after a permanent swoop for the former Barnsley midfielder this summer.

Kane has continued to struggle with injuries since joining Plymouth, but whenever he has got on the pitch, he has excelled, as Football League World's Plymouth fan pundit, Luke, has shared their opinion on whether Kane is a player the Pilgrims should look to bring back this summer despite his injury problems.

Luke said: "Yeah, it's a difficult one this, because Herbie Kane has had a lot of injuries this year, but he is only 27 years old, and his previous injury records haven't been as bad as what I first thought.

"But the stumbling block is that he does have one year left with Huddersfield, so it would require striking up a good deal, because there's no two ways about it, he's an excellent player, and he would be a big plus in Argyle's squad, if he walks into the side.

"But then there's another person as well who's out of contract this summer, and that's Joe Ralls, who is also quite a similar player to Herbie Kane in terms of quality. So it'll be interesting to see if Argyle try and go for both or whether they go for one.

"Yeah, it'll be interesting to see what happens. But for me, if the price is right, and they're confident that they can keep him fit, then I would definitely like him at Argyle. But if it's too much and with the finances at Argyle struggling a little bit, then maybe there may be better options around; someone who's less injury prone, and someone who they may be able to get on a free transfer."

Tom Cleverley will be preparing for the summer window at Plymouth amid uncertainty around which division they will be playing in next season

Plans for what the summer window may look like at Plymouth will have no doubt begun, as both incomings and outgoings are bound to occur in Devon.

Star forwards Lorent Tolaj and Aribim Pepple are two players who have attracted interest in recent times, with Belgian publication Votebal Primeur reporting that Anderlecht, Stoke City, Norwich City, and Swansea City are tracking Tolaj, whilst Celtic are reportedly interested in both.

Plymouth face a battle to keep hold of their prized assets this summer, regardless of what division they are in, as preparations for their potential departures will be internally discussed.

Meanwhile, discussion over whether Kane is someone the club should be targeting this summer after his loan deal expires will also likely occur.

Whether the midfielder can make the jump to the Championship in the event of Plymouth's promotion remains to be seen, though he will be a player who will be considered for a permanent arrival nonetheless.
