Plymouth Argyle are weighing up a late move to sign Jay Fulton on loan from Swansea City

In their battle to beat the drop, Plymouth Argyle have reportedly identified Swansea City's Jay Fulton as someone they could bring in over the last two days of the transfer window.

According to Alan Nixon, Argyle are plotting a late loan swoop for the 30-year-old, who they feel will bolster their midfield as they seek to lift themselves off the foot of the table.

Plymouth have made a respectable push to do that even without Fulton of late, winning against West Brom on Saturday to snap their club-record winless league run that spanned an incredible 15 matches, while a 2-2 draw against Sunderland the week prior was also an eye-catching result.

New boss Miron Muslic will be acutely aware he still has his work cut out to get Plymouth heads above water, and Fulton could bring some much-needed steel to their midfield as they bid to do just that, but with just two days remaining in the window, he'll have to move quickly.

Argyle don't particularly find themselves in an attractive position to sign players given their relegation battling status, but the likes of Fulton could be happy to come on loan for the remainder of the campaign knowing he could go back to his parent club in May.

According to Nixon, Argyle are looking for some Championship expertise in their new-look squad under Muslic, and are hopeful of thrashing out a deal in the last two days of the window.

Despite selling Morgan Whittaker earlier this month, Nixon reports that a move for Fulton would be a loan deal, although it remains to be seen whether Argyle choose to invest the Whittaker money elsewhere.

After allowing Adam Forshaw to leave earlier in the window, Plymouth are desperately short of Championship experience, but Fulton would certainly go some way to bridging that gap.

For a manager who is new to English football and doesn't truly understand what the Championship about, it's crucial to have that level of experience around you.

That's perhaps why Muslic is eyeing up this swoop for Fulton, who knows the Championship inside out having played at this level for the last seven seasons with Swansea, with differing success.

He's never been embroiled in a relegation battle before with the Swans, but 200+ games at this level makes him an expert in understanding how the league works and the demands of dealing with the schedule, something Muslic will need guidance with.
