It seemed only a matter of time before the transfer interest in Morgan Whittaker began to resurface this summer, and lo and behold, a swathe of clubs have begun to circle Plymouth Argyle's star.

The 19-goal star from the previous campaign has plenty of admirers according to Football Insider, with Premier League duo Wolverhampton Wanderers and Brentford said to be keen of the former Swansea City man.

Celta Vigo, Stuttgart and Lazio are all also credited with monitoring the left-footed wizard’s situation as it stands, with Argyle seemingly unrelenting from their £15 million valuation of their prized asset that emerged back in January.

But despite their decision to play hardball this summer, recent revelations at Molineux could lead to one or two of a green persuasion becoming slightly unrested of late.

Marseille move for Wolverhampton Wanderers star Hwang Hee-Chan

With Wolves said to be one of the clubs interested in Whittaker this summer, the last thing Argyle needed was for one of the Premier League side’s main attacking threats to be gaining transfer interest of their own.

But that is the state of play with Hwang Hee-Chan recently, with the South Korean reportedly the subject of a £21 million bid from Ligue 1 side Marseille recently.

The English side are said to have rejected that offer, but according to The Sun, the forward has reached an agreement in principle to join Roberto de Zerbi’s side this summer, if the two clubs can agree a deal.

That news will send a shiver down the spine of Argyle fans, with the Old Gold needing to find replacements ahead of their impending Premier League campaign, and Whittaker said to be near the top of their list.

The Pilgrims are said to have fended off interest from Brentford and Fulham in the most-recent January transfer window, as well as Lazio, but it could be a different story if Wolves have the cash to splash once Hwang has departed the club.

Having initially caught the eye with nine goals in 25 League One games in the 22/23 campaign while on loan from Swansea City, Argyle moved to make Whittaker theirs last summer, as he became the first player to be signed for a seven-figure fee in the club’s history.

The wide man has justified that price tag immediately since the Pilgrims made the step-up to the second tier, with his goals proving influential in keeping his side in the division last time around, as he pulled rabbits out of hats on many occasions.

That sort of form doesn’t go unnoticed by clubs further up the football pyramid though, and Argyle could be set for another battle to keep hold of their star man in the weeks to come.

Wayne Rooney keen to keep hold of Morgan Whittaker ahead of 24/25 Championship campaign

Argyle will be fighting tooth and nail to keep hold of Whittaker this summer, despite the growing interest in his services, but every player does have a price at the end of the day.

Rooney admitted as much when asked about his forward’s availability earlier in the summer, although the Greens won’t be letting him go without being well-reimbursed.

When asked previously, the Argyle boss said: “Firstly, Morgan is a fantastic player, as we seen last season, but he's a really good human being as well. I played with him.

"Morgan has come in as everyone else has for pre-season. He has trained really well I have to say, with a smile on his face, and he's a quality player, there is no getting beyond that.

“I’m sure there will be interest, I'm sure there will be bids for him, but from our point of view he's an Argyle player and I want to try to move forward with Morgan.

"Of course, if you are getting crazy offers as a club you have to look at that, but we want him here. We want him to be part of the squad."

Having reportedly rejected an £8.5 million bid from Lazio six months ago, it is clear to see that Argyle are sticking true to their word in terms of Whittaker, but with the latest ongoings in the Black Country, that resolve may be being tested even more in the weeks to come.
