Rouven Schröder has reiterated his backing for Eugen Polanski to remain as Borussia Mönchengladbach head coach despite another setback, and for now his position appears safe.

Gladbach’s winless run stretched to seven on Sunday with a 2-1 defeat at SC Freiburg, leaving Die Fohlen two points above the relegation zone.

"He has our full trust. He will do everything to prepare the team as best as possible against Union Berlin (on Saturday). If we didn’t believe he could do it, we would take action," he told DAZN.

"In the end, it’s all of us – especially the players – who are responsible for implementing things properly. Now it’s about putting a finger on the wound, but also giving the guys our trust. This is professional sport. Just hammering down on them is definitely not a solution."

Polanski succeeded Gerardo Seoane in September and was appointed permanently in November.
