Police await fire department clearance and Palmeiras changes to allow 4,000 away fans for Libertadores semi | OneFootball

São Paulo’s Military Police are waiting on the fire department and changes by Palmeiras before authorising an increase in the away allocation at Nubank Parque from 2,000 to 4,000 for the Libertadores semi-final against Fluminense. Although the Public Prosecutor’s Office has approved it, further alterations are still required for safety.

“Before our assessment, organisers need fire department authorisation, the Auto de Vistoria do Corpo de Bombeiros, the AVCB, which certifies the venue’s safety, especially escape routes in an emergency,” said lieutenant-colonel Valdinei Arcanjo da Silva, speaking to ESPN.

“Structural measures are needed, such as protective netting to stop thrown objects and segregation. Extra structures at gates and outside, and an operational plan for turnstiles and biometric checks,” he added.

CONMEBOL rules require hosts to offer at least 4,000 away tickets in the semi-finals. A São Paulo security order currently limits the away sector at Palmeiras’ ground, and previous semis used reciprocal 2,000 allocations. Fluminense have not agreed this time, so Palmeiras are pursuing an exceptional waiver.

“Palmeiras contacted us on Friday, formalised the request on Monday, and on Tuesday we replied with documentary conditions and fresh reviews of the AVCB and Public Prosecutor’s Office,” he said.

“Today, Thursday, the club sought the fire department’s evaluation. Once the full plan is ready, we will meet and make adjustments if needed,” he said.

A decision is expected next week. The second leg is scheduled for 21 October at 21:30 Brasília time, the first is on 14 October at the Maracanã.
