Burglars have raided the 'maset' owned in Vila-real by former Villarreal and Spain goalkeeper Pepe Reina, a 2010 World Cup winner and now coach of the club’s Juvenil A side.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, citing police sources, the intruders struck at night when neither Reina, his wife, former volleyball player Yolanda Ruiz, nor their five children were at home. Reina’s father-in-law and a housekeeper were inside.
The National Police have opened an investigation to find the suspects. Personal belongings were taken and no one was injured. The date of the break-in has not been disclosed, and the family have lived in Vila-real for several years.
The incident has caused concern among neighbours with 'masets' near Reina’s property.
Reina was previously targeted in England 19 years ago, when thieves struck while he played a Champions League semi-final between Liverpool and Chelsea. He saved two penalties in the shootout to send the Anfield side to the final.
