The Federal Highway Police seized 52 steel bars from a car travelling with Santos supporters to Belo Horizonte, where the team face Atlético-MG on Wednesday.

According to Globo.com, officers made the stop at km 548 of the BR-381 in Itatiaiuçu, in the Belo Horizonte metropolitan area. The car was travelling with five chartered buses that had left São Paulo for the Minas Gerais capital.

The driver and passenger said they were members of Torcida Jovem do Santos. The 52 bars were steel tubes measuring 1.60 metres in length.

The occupants told officers the material was for a possible confrontation with members of a Cruzeiro organised supporters' group.

The incident was recorded under the General Sports Law, which punishes those who carry or transport objects that could be used for violence on the way to a sporting event.

A Termo Circunstanciado de Ocorrência was issued and the bars were seized. The two occupants signed a commitment to appear before the Special Criminal Court in Itaúna when summoned, then were released.
