Stellenbosch FC suffered a devastating 2-1 defeat to Polokwane City in the Betway Premiership at Athlone Stadium on Wednesday.

The visitors took the lead through Lebohang Nkaki, who converted from the spot in the 39th minute, before Thabelo Tshikweta made it 2-0 on the stroke of halftime.

Steve Barker's men pulled one back in the hour mark, as speedy starlet Langelihle Phili scored his seventh goal of the season in 18 matches across all competitions.

However, the goal was not enough to prevent Stellies from suffering their eighth league defeat of the season after 14 matches played.

The Cape Winelands outfit sit 14th with 12 points - three points above bottom-placed Chippa United and just two points clear of Magesi FC, who occupy position 15.

Meanwhile, for Rise and Shine, the win elevated them to sixth place, having amassed 23 points from 14 games.

Phuthi Mohafe's men are three points off a CAF Confederation Cup spot as they trail third-placed provincial rivals Sekhukhune United with three points.
