Portsmouth winger Josh Murphy is raring to go after a frustrating spell on the sidelines and an assist in Pompey's 3-1 win over Millwall at the weekend suggests he's back on form.
The 30-year-old twin of Newcastle's Jacob Murphy has been outstanding for Portsmouth over recent seasons, notably topping the Championship's assist charts last term, but missed over a month of action with an ankle injury sustained against Southampton in mid-September.
However after an assist prior to the international break at Hull, Murphy was again influential in his side's impressive win over the Lions at Fratton Park on Saturday.
Although he is unlikely to mind in the slightest, his assist at the weekend will not rank as one of his most accomplished - Zak Swanson doing most of the heavy lifting with an absolute rocket for Portsmouth's opening goal.
Murphy now has three assists to his name in the Championship this season, and if you trace his numbers back to the start of the 2024/25 campaign it makes for very impressive reading.
The leading assister across the entire EFL over the past two seasons, with 17 in total, Murphy has laid on more goals than every other player in 'The 72'. In fact, only one player in the Premier League has out-performed the former England youth international over this period... and it's not his twin brother!
Although Jacob Murphy does have 13 assists for Newcastle during this time, the only man to out-perform Josh is Liverpool's Mo Salah, who has racked up a remarkable 20 assists in the top flight since the start of last season.
