Pope And Tonali Get 7.5 | Newcastle United Players Rated In Tough Loss Vs Arsenal

Newcastle United welcomed Arsenal at St. James’ Park earlier this evening as they looked to secure a good result at home in the Premier League. The Magpies made a decent start to the contest and took the lead in the 34th minute thanks to Nick Woltemade’s header. Eddie Howe’s players managed to get to the half-time break 1-0 up on the scoreline.
The Tyneside club conceded the equaliser in the 84th minute when Mikel Merino found the back of the net. Gabriel ended up scoring the winner for Arsenal in injury time as Newcastle crashed to a tough 2-1 loss in front of their home fans.
Let’s take a look at how each Newcastle United player fared during the clash against the Gunners.
Pope made a lot of important saves at the back but conceded two late goals this evening.
RB: Tino Livramento – 6.5/10
He cleared the danger when needed but offered very little going forward.
CB: Malick Thiaw – 7/10
Thiaw was a rock at the back for Newcastle and was a threat at the other end of the field as well.
CB: Sven Botman – 7/10
He made a lot of important clearances inside his half and was good on the ball.

LB: Dan Burn – 6.5/10
Burn did his fair share of defending but struggled to influence the game going forward.
CM: Bruno Guimaraes – 6.5/10
He anchored the midfield well and made two inviting chances in the final third.
CM: Sandro Tonali – 7.5/10
Tonali was a positive influence at both ends of the pitch and has got an assist to show for his efforts.
CM: Joelinton – 6.5/10
He earned the ball back twice and made one key chance in the final third.
RW: Jacob Murphy – 6.5/10
Murphy caught the eye at times on the right flank and was replaced after the hour mark.
ST: Nick Woltemade – 7/10
Woltemade scored with a great header in the first half but was quiet in the second.
LW: Anthony Gordon – 7/10
He caused some problems for the opposition defenders but failed to get his name on the scoresheet.

His impact on the game was minimal.
ST: William Osula – 5.5/10
He failed to be a threat up top.

He struggled to influence the game.
