Arsenal travel to Port Vale in the Carabao Cup third round as they begin their hunt for a trophy under Mikel Arteta.

The Gunners will be looking to go one better in the competition this year after falling in the semi-finals to Newcastle last term.

This is only the second time in 16 years that Vale have reached the third round.

Arteta’s men will be without Noni Madueke whose knee injury he picked up against Man City could rule him out for two months.

The hosts meanwhile will be hoping to build on Saturday’s 2-1 win over Mansfield which was their first home league win of the year and will have the dangerous Devante Cole up top who is their leading scorer.

Date, kick-off time and venue

Port Vale v Arsenal is scheduled to kick off at 8pm BST on Wednesday, September 24th 2025.

The match will take place at Vale Park in Stoke-on-Trent.

Noni Madueke is the latest Arsenal player to pick up an injury joining Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz on the treatment table.

New signing Piero Hincapie was left out of Arteta’s squad on Sunday due to injury and it’s not known whether he will be fit in time for tomorrow’s clash.

Kepa Arrizabalaga will likely make his competitive debut for the Gunners in goal in place of the rested David Raya.

Arteta is expected to rotate his side, so there could be starts for Cristhian Mosquera, Ben White and Myles Lewis-Skelly across the back four.

Meanwhile, summer arrival Christian Norgaard could also make his first start for the Gunners alongside Mikel Merino in midfield, with Declan Rice and Martin Zumbimendi potentially rested.

There may also be chances for youngsters Max Dowman and Ethan Nwaneri to impress Arteta.

In the home dugout, Darren Moore will welcome back the returning Mo Faal, who made his return from the bench in the 2-1 win over Mansfield Town after a hamstring issue.

Moore will be sweating on midfielder Liam Gordon, who had to come off against the Stags due to an injury. They will also be without the injured Mitch Clark and Kyle John.

Port Vale v Arsenal prediction

Port Vale sit 19th in League One but have won their last two league games and will hope that they can continue that mini-run of good form to trouble their top-flight opponents.

That will be unlikely though, with Arsenal sitting second in the Premier League with only one loss through their first six competitive games this season.

Arsenal to win, 4-0.

Head to head (h2h) history and results

These two have not faced each other since 1998, where Arsenal actually needed penalties to sneak past Vale in a FA Cup third round replay.
