According to Glorioso 1904, Porto used their Dragões Diário newsletter to needle Benfica after lifting the Supertaça, stating they now hold 88 trophies, ahead of Benfica’s 87.

Porto beat Torreense 1-0 to win the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira, a victory secured in Coimbra.

In its newsletter, Porto framed itself as already the country’s most decorated club, argued some still denied it, and said the Supertaça win expanded the haul in what it calls the fullest museum in Portugal.

After a hard-fought success in difficult conditions, Francesco Farioli described the result as very important and kept the focus on the season’s main objective. He said winning was essential, that it was time to celebrate, then prepare for the start of the league.

The Italian added he was pleased to end the argument over which club is Portugal’s most titled. The trophy tally continues to be interpreted differently by the two rivals, and the debate is set to rumble on through the season.
