Porto ‘to rival’ Benfica for Tottenham left-back João Victor Souza | OneFootball

Benfica have lodged a formal bid with Tottenham for Brazilian left-back João Victor Souza, but Porto are also in the frame.

Maisfutebol reports that Porto are competing with the Lisbon club for the 20-year-old, with André Villas-Boas’s hierarchy seeking to reinforce the left-back position and having tracked him for some time.

Souza joined Tottenham from Santos around six months ago for €15 million, and Benfica’s move, led by president Rui Costa, is understood to be worth about €20 million.

The left-footer, under contract until June 2031, drew wider attention after his promotion to Santos’ senior side in 2024. His time in London has yet to take off and he was used sparingly last season.

In 2025/26 he made four Premier League appearances for Tottenham, totalling 144 minutes, and did not register a goal or an assist. He is valued at €12 million.
