According to Santi Aouna, Olympique Lyonnais are still pushing for the signature of FC Porto’s 24-year-old centre-back David Carmo (24).
The defender is lacking game time this season for the Portuguese giants, having only made 14 appearances in all competitions, and could therefore potentially be tempted by the idea of joining a new club, in the pursuit of first-team football. Carmo joined Porto back in the summer of 2022, transferring from SC Braga for a fee worth over €20 million, though he has never been able to break through as a starter, only making 32 appearances since joining.
Regardless of their recent regain of form, Lyon are currently 15th in Ligue 1, ranking as the joint third-worst defence in the league, and are definitely in need of reinforcements in the back line if they are to have a better second half to the season than the first. Precisely, they are in need of a right-sided centreback to pair with last summer’s signing Jake O’Brien (22), as regular starter Dejan Lovren (34) has been struggling with injuries this season, and has generally been seeing a decrease in performances.
Carmo could very much be that player if Lyon succeed in dislodging him from his natal Portugal, although his previous transfer fee could mean Porto’s asking price will be above what Les Gones are willing to put on the table. Perhaps a loan move would be the best deal for both parties.
