Gunners hoping to improve on last season’s third-round exit
Arsenal will kick off their 2025-26 FA Cup campaign by the seaside as they face Championship strugglers Portsmouth at Fratton Park.
The Gunners remain top of the Premier League after a largely uneventful goalless draw with Liverpool on Thursday night.
They will hope to show more guile in front of goal as they face lower-league opposition this weekend, though. The Gunners are without silverware since they lifted the FA Cup back in 2020, and beat Portsmouth en route to the final.
They were underwhelming in this competition last campaign, though, crashing out in the third round after being beaten by ten-man Manchester United on penalties.
Portsmouth, who were trounced 5-0 away to Bristol City last time out, sit one point clear of the Championship relegation zone having won just six league matches this campaign, and they have their work cut out for them if they are to get their season back on track here.
Portsmouth vs Arsenal is scheduled for a 2pm GMT kick-off on Sunday, January 11, 2026.
The match will take place at Fratton Park in Portsmouth.

Arsenal picked up one new injury concern in the Liverpool draw as Piero Hincapie limped off early in the second-half to be replaced by Myles Lewis-Skelly, and it remains unclear how serious his injury is.
Riccardo Calafiori is a doubt with an injury described by Mikel Arteta as “awkward.” It had been hoped he could return to face Liverpool, but he did not make the matchday squad.
Cristhian Mosquera is out with a longer-term ankle injury, which Arteta has dubbed “complicated,” though he is expected to return in the coming weeks.
A match at this stage of the FA Cup would generally be seen as a good opportunity to throw academy players into the mix, but beloved Arsenal wonderkid Max Dowman will not be available on the south coast as he recovers from an ankle injury.
There may yet be opportunities for fringe players such as Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard, Gabriel Jesus, or Ethan Nwaneri. Marli Salmon could also get another run out, while the misfiring striker Viktor Gyokeres could be handed an opportunity to get a couple of goals and build his confidence back up.

Elsewhere, Portsmouth will be without loanee Tottenham winger Yang Min-Hyeok after he was recalled and reassigned to Coventry City last week.
There are plenty of other injuries in the Pompey squad. Forward Colby Bishop is a doubt, and as many as nine other first-team players could be set to miss out.
Adorning that list are Florian Bianchini (knee), Josh Knight (back), Mark Kosznovszky (knee), Callum Lang (hamstring), Josh Murphy (hamstring), Connor Ogilvie (knee), Marlon Pack (hamstring), Thomas Waddingham (thigh) and Hayden Matthews (ankle).
This should, in theory, be a straightforward outing for Mikel Arteta and Arsenal.
The Gunners may not have been at their absolute best in recent weeks, being held goalless by Liverpool and only narrowly beating Bournemouth the match previous, but being top of the Premier League, there can be very few excuses if they do not breeze through this encounter at Fratton Park.
Portsmouth are in very real danger of relegation to League One this season, and are without a swathe of first-team talent.
Arsenal supporters, then, should be in for a pleasant day by the sea - weather permitting.
Arsenal to win, 5-0
This will be the first meeting between these sides since March 2020, when they met at Fratton Park in the FA Cup fifth round. Arsenal came away with a 2-0 win thanks to goals from Eddie Nketiah and Sokratis Papastathopoulos. Pompey have not bested the Gunners since 1958, losing 14 times and drawing eight since.
