Portugal will indeed play in the next World Cup. Without Cristiano Ronaldo, Roberto Martínez's side finally secured their qualification by thrashing Armenia 9-1 this Sunday.

The Portuguese had already had two earlier chances: a draw against Hungary (2-2), then a defeat to Ireland (0-2). This time, they left no room for doubt. In front of their home fans, they completely dominated the match.

Bruno Fernandes and João Neves both netted hat-tricks. Renato Veiga and Gonçalo Ramos also found the back of the net. Armenia managed only a consolation goal through Eduard Spertsyan. Thanks to this emphatic victory, Portugal will take part in the World Cup for the ninth time in their history. Their best result remains a third-place finish in 1966.
