Peterborough United notched their fourth straight victory under new head coach Luke Williams with an impressive 3-0 triumph over League One pace-setters Stockport County on Thursday night — though the ex-Swansea boss insists his team still have “a long way to go”.
Posh hit three against Dave Challinor’s side to dethrone the Hatters on goal difference. Ben Woods, Kyrell Lisbie and Brandon Khela all found the net, handing Williams his second league success at the helm — a spell that has now produced eight goals scored without reply.
The result lifted Posh up two spots to 21st, leaving them a single point from safety ahead of the remaining weekend fixtures.
After the match, Williams stressed the need to build on this early momentum and outlined the principles he believes will drive their surge up the table.
“We still have a long, long way to go. We are still in a very bad position in the table. It’s a good start, but it means nothing if we don’t follow it up.
“I want my team to be tough and to deny at one end and create at the other. How we look between both boxes will develop over time, but first and foremost, we are doing a good job at protecting our box and attacking the opposition’s.
“If we play like that, we will get people onside. If they see commitment on the pitch they will give the energy back. There wasn’t a huge crowd, but they gave all the energy they could. I hope we made them feel a bit warmer on a freezing cold night.”
Posh are next in action on Tuesday evening (November 25, 7.45pm), hosting sixth-placed Stevenage in a rearranged fixture originally postponed due to October’s international window.
