Arsenal defender William Saliba is reportedly running again after an injury that has so far kept him out for the start of the new season.

The France international is yet to play for the Gunners in 2026/27, having gone off with a problem in the World Cup in the summer.

Saliba had some issues before that tournament, and L’Equipe previously reported that he would likely miss the start of the 2026/27 campaign.

Now it seems there has been a further update from L’Equipe, as cited and translated below by Matt Spiro on X, with Saliba said to be running again for what should be an important step on his road to returning to action…

“William Saliba has started running again after recent X-ray showed his recovery is on track. He’s watched every Arsenal & France game and been impressed by his replacements (Konsa & Jacquet). Desperate to play but won’t rush it. Currently on course for November return (L’Equipe),” Spiro posted.

Saliba is a hugely important player for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta will surely be eager to have him back as soon as possible, even if so far his side have coped pretty well in the Frenchman’s absence.

Arsenal need William Saliba to cement status as title favourites

Saliba has been a hugely important player for Arsenal down the years, playing a starring role in their superb season in which they won the Premier League and reached the Champions League final last term.

The 25-year-old is well known for his rock solid partnership with Gabriel Magalhaes, which has helped turn AFC into one of the toughest opponents to play against in Europe.

Ezri Konsa joined Arsenal this summer to give them cover for the injured Saliba, and he’s performed well so far, even though he’s clearly not quite the same calibre as Saliba.

If Arsenal are to retain their title and have a realistic stab at the Champions League they will want that Saliba-Gabriel partnership back together as soon as possible.
