LEWIS FERGUSON’S THOUGHTS:

“The match slipped away from us in the first half. We didn’t deliver the performance we wanted. Tonight the stronger team won: quality, speed… they are the favourites and they deserve congratulations. For us, the Europa League remains a wonderful experience. We tried until the very end and we thank the fans for their constant support.”

RICCARDO ORSOLINI’S WORDS:

“We knew we had to lay the foundations for qualification in the home leg, but we didn’t manage to and so today we needed something special. Aston Villa immediately made it clear that it wasn’t going to be our night, even as we tried to create a few chances. They are a very strong team and I think they will go all the way.

We conceded too many goals from set pieces and made mistakes that you can’t afford in the Europa League, because you pay the consequences. We’re disappointed with how it ended, but we take away an incredible experience – a wonderful journey, throughout which we grew so much. I thank the fans for following us at every stage: even tonight, after a heavy defeat, they applauded us.”

JONATHAN ROWE’S STATEMENT:

“Obviously I’m disappointed about tonight’s defeat and our elimination from the competition. We had a great run and going out is never nice. But this is football: anything can happen. There are highs and lows, so you have to take the good with the bad.”
