More than 30,000 Real fans packed the fan zone despite the heat, and a thunderous 'Brigade Loco' set stole the show. According to Diario Vasco, revelry outlasted temperatures above 30 degrees.

Barrene struck within moments of kick-off, then Oyarzabal converted a penalty on the stroke of half-time, both celebrated to 'Dale Cavese'. The crowd felt at home, traditions intact.

A kalejira of 26,000 moved from the fan zone to La Cartuja, a kilometre and a half of blue and white. Nerves were jangling before kick-off.

At Las Setas, the Tamborrada Antonio, led by Tito Marcelino, the Txuri Urdin coach, played the Marcha de San Sebastián and Real’s anthem as locals clapped. Many were visibly moved.

The parched fan zone and blazing Saturday afternoon made shade priceless. Those beneath trees or under the marquee were fortunate, the rest simply endured.

Mateos Gago was the main meeting point on Friday and Saturday, Anoeta chants constant. Flares added colour and nearby bars cashed in before the Feria.

At the Maestranza, rejoneador Guillermo Hermoso de Mendoza, son of Pablo, signalled his allegiance by plaiting his mount’s mane in blue and white.

In Triana, a resident took a supporter’s scarf and unfurled it on her balcony, prompting a chorus that she was of the Real. She smiled as the fans applauded.
