Ange Postecoglou confirmed that Lucas Bergvall is not ready to play a part in the Europa League final – and insists his job at Spurs is far from finished even if he wins the Europa League.
Tottenham take on Manchester United in Bilbao on Wednesday with both the trophy and a place in next season’s Champions League up for grabs.
Bergvall has been out since last month with an ankle injury and Postecoglou confirmed he has not recovered.
“Team news is pretty much the same as last week,” Postecoglou said.
“No, Lucas isn’t available. We’re pretty much the same as we were as of last week.”
With Spurs sitting 17th in the Premier League, speculation persists over Postecoglou’s future at the club regardless of whether or not they win the Europa League but the Tottenham boss vowed he will “keep winning trophies” wherever he ends up.
“Nothing is guaranteed in life or in sport so you just have to try and take every opportunity that’s before you,” he said.
“I’ve been in this position before where a big game was the last game I managed so it’s not unusual territory for me so I’ve always navigated that pretty well.
“Nothing is more important to me than my responsibility to this football club, to the fans. That means the players’ minds are only on one thing and that is trying to create something special.
“I qualified for a World Cup, I left. I won the treble with Celtic and left. I won at Brisbane and I left. It’s actually more common than you think.
“I wouldn’t be the first person who changes jobs mate. We all change jobs. I’m sure you’ve had more than one job. My future is assured. I’ve got a beautiful family, I’ve got a great life, I’ll keep on winning trophies until I finish, wherever that is.
“Don’t worry about my future. My future is not intwined with anything. My future is assured providing, god willing, my health remains and my beautiful family is beside me, and my friends. There’s nothing wrong with my future mate.
“I don’t think my job is done here. I really feel like we’re building something and it’s quite obvious the challenges we’ve had this year which I think are well chronicled.
“I think there’s some reasoning in the context of that but also there’s been some growth that I’d like to see through.
“But whether that happens or not, it’s not that important right now. But I’m far from thinking this job is finished and I certainly feel like there’s some growth there that can take this club to where it needs to be.”
