Ange Postecoglou insisted there’s ‘a lot he can do’ to address Tottenham’s incredible second-half collapse at Brighton.
In-form Brennan Johnson powered Spurs ahead before James Maddison profited from a goalkeeping howler to put the gloss on a dominant first-half performance.
No-one could foresee what would happen in the second 45 as Spurs contrived to throw the game away, leaving Postecoglou absolutely furious.
“We didn’t do what you need to do at this level that’s non-negotiable,” he said.
“We weren’t competitive. We didn’t win our duels, we lacked intensity. We didn’t deliver the things you need to at this level.
“It’s unacceptable at the end of the day. You can understand not winning every game but there’s a manner in which you lose games. It’s the first time since I’ve been here that we’ve lost a game in that manner.
“There’s a lot I can do about it, that’s why I’m in the role. If I couldn’t do anything about it, somebody else would be sitting here.”
Postecoglou brandished the shock defeat the worst of his Tottenham tenure so far.
“I don’t know if I learnt something new but I certainly experienced something new,” he added.
“Straight after the game you’re emotional. That’s the most disappointing loss I’ve had since I’ve been here in terms of the way we went about it. It’s something I need to assess.”
