It will be a tough fixture with Emery’s side in good form with a midweek 1-0 victory against Bayern Munich.

With pressure mounting on the former Ajax boss, reports have emerged about possible managerial candidates to replace Ten Hag.

Names like Thomas Tuchel and Gareth Southgate have constantly been linked with Simone Inzaghi another name that has been linked in recent days.

However, the most likely outcome at the moment is that Ruud Van Nistelrooy may be put in charge on an interim basis if Ten Hag is sacked.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy has one worry about replacing Erik ten Hag at Manchester United

Ruud Van Nistelrooy returned to the club in the summer as a coach despite interest and offers to be a manager from other clubs.

Van Nistelrooy doesn’t have a lot of experience as a manager other than his time at PSV Eindhoven.

It seems likely that the Dutchman will become the interim manager if Ten Hag leaves, however, Van Nistelrooy reportedly has one concern about taking over.

According to the Mirror, the former Manchester United striker does not want to betray Ten Hag’s trust after the joined to help in the summer.

According to Dutch sources as per the Mirror: “Van Nistelrooy is a principled guy. He felt betrayed at Eindhoven – and he will not want to be viewed as the man who went behind Erik ten Hag’s back.”

The Mirror’s Simon Mullock added, “There is some tension between Ten Hag and Van Nistelrooy as speculation has grown that the former United favourite was recruited by INEOS in the summer to replace assistant Mitchell van der Gaag because he would be a safe pair of hands should a change of manager be required.”
