Power Rankings are back as we rank the European teams building momentum ahead of the run-in.
Here are the 10 sides in our updated Power Rankings table.
Is the Premier League title race getting away from the Gunners? Arsenal blew a two-goal lead to draw with Aston Villa last weekend, a result that leaves Mikel Arteta’s men six points behind Liverpool – having played a game more.
A 3-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb in midweek was the perfect response, but Arsenal’s failure to sign a striker last summer is beginning to look costly.
Napoli return to our Power Rankings table after a statement Serie A win.
Antonio Conte’s side overcame title rivals Atalanta in a see-sawing showdown in Bergamo, one that saw both teams lead in a five-goal thriller. Romelu Lukaku found the winner for Napoli, who recorded their sixth straight league win.
Bayern Munich are in control of the title race in Germany but Vincent Kompany’s side remain painfully inconsistent in Europe. Bayern were beaten for the third time in the Champions League’s league phase this week, going down 3-0 at Feyenoord.
There has been little evidence so far that the Bavarians can mount a real challenge in the Champions League this season.
A blip for Bayer Leverkusen, who lost a chaotic clash at Atletico Madrid this week.
Despite leading and boasting a man advantage for 51 minutes, Leverkusen lost in the Spanish capital courtesy of Julian Alvarez’s double.
Barcelona climb after a captivating win at Benfica this week.
The Catalans confirmed their place in the Champions League’s Round of 16 after edging a nine-goal thriller in Lisbon.
Trailing 3-1 and 4-2 to their Portuguese hosts, Raphinha’s last-gasp goal sealed a famous 5-4 win and completed La Remontada.
Avoiding a two-legged playoff is big news for Hansi Flick, whose side have ground to make up in the La Liga title race.
Paris Saint-Germain storm into our Power Rankings table.
The French champions have won nine and drawn one of their last 10 games in all competitions and showed their powers of recovery this week.
After a come-from-behind win at Lens, PSG recovered from two goals down to beat Manchester City 4-2 in the Champions League. It was a crucial comeback for the Parisians and keeps alive their hopes of European success this season.
Inter are not firing on all cylinders right now but Simeone Inzaghi’s side know how to get the job done.
A 3-1 win over Empoli leaves Inter well-placed to defend the Scudetto, three points behind leaders Napoli with a game in hand. In Europe, Inter all but assured automatic entry to the Round of 16 with a 1-0 win at Sparta Prague.
It was a sixth clean sheet in seven Champions League games for Inter, who have conceded just once in the competition this season. A tough nut to crack.
Real Madrid can’t stop scoring right now.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side eased to a 4-1 win over Las Palmas at the weekend to take top spot in La Liga, before blitzing Red Bull Salzburg 5-1 at the Bernabeu on Wednesday night. The latter fixture saw some glorious team goals and Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior (2) and Rodrygo (2) all on target. That’s an encouraging sign as the club’s superstar forward line begins to find chemistry.
After a brief stint as leaders, Atletico slide to second this week.
Diego Simeone’s side saw their 15-game winning run ended at the weekend after a shock setback at Leganes. The defeat saw Atleti lose their grip on top spot in La Liga as Real Madrid moved above their cross-town neighbours.
Atletico issued a response with a spirited performance in Europe. Down to 10 men inside 25 minutes against Bayer Leverkusen and a goal down at half-time, a brilliant brace from Julian Alvarez moved the Spaniards within touching distance of the knockout rounds.
Liverpool moved back into top spot after back-to-back wins this week.
Darwin Nunez was the hero of the 2-0 win at Brentford in the Premier League, as the substitute’s stoppage-time double snatched the points. With Arsenal dropping points late in the day, the win strengthened the Reds’ position as leaders.
Arne Slot’s side then secured passage to the Champions League’s Round of 16 with a 2-1 win over Lille. It’s been a dream start for Slot in the competition, who boasts seven wins from seven as Liverpool boss.
