FC Bayern face a Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain, with coach Vincent Kompany having to make do without a number of players

Kompany – who himself is suspended and will be deputized by Aaron Danks – will send his currently best available team onto the pitch

The starting position is clear: they will need a top performance against the reigning title holders to put themselves in a good position for the second leg in Munich

Manuel Neuer is set to start in goal, as the 40-year-old has the necessary experience for such top matches and should give the defense stability

In defence, there is much to be said for a back four of Josip Stanisic, Dayot Upamecano, Jonathan Tah and Konrad Laimer. Alphonso Davies would be an alternative on the left, but is likely to be on the bench for the time being

Joshua Kimmich and Aleksandar Pavlovic could start in central midfield, both of whom are considered to be set and should structure Bayern’s play

In attack, Kompany is likely to rely on his top line-up, with Michael Olise, Jamal Musiala and Luis Diaz likely to operate behind Harry Kane. This quartet in particular has repeatedly made the difference in recent weeks

Due to the absences of Serge Gnabry, Raphael Guerreiro and Lennart Karl, however, the alternatives in attack are limited. Although Karl’s involvement is not completely ruled out, it is considered rather unlikely

Likely line-ups at a glance

Paris Saint-Germain: Safonov – Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Nuno Mendes – Joao Neves, Vitinha, Fabian – Doué, Dembelé, Kvaratskhelia

FC Bayern: Neuer – Stanisic, Upamecano, Tah, Laimer – Kimmich, Pavlovic – Olise, Musiala, Luis Diaz – Kane

PSG coach Luis Enrique has almost a full squad to choose from, with only Quentin Ndjantou missing through injury. Recently injured players such as Vitinha and Achraf Hakimi are also available again.
