Looking at this Newcastle team v Bournemouth.
Only hours to go now before United are back in action on the south coast.
Newcastle United looking to make it consecutive wins in the Premier League.
A clean sheet and Nick Woltemade scoring on his debut, enough to beat Wolves.
In between of course, we saw that narrow 2-1 defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League.
As a reminder, this was the Newcastle team v Barcelona:
Pope, Trippier, Schar, Burn, Livramento, Tonali, Bruno, Joelinton, Barnes, Gordon, Elanga
One thing we do know for sure, is that there will be changes to the eleven who started against Barcelona. Just a case of how many changes and who comes in (and goes out).
Wissa and Ramsey remain out and Gordon can’t play as he completes his three game Premier League suspension. Whilst Fabian Schar misses these next few matches due to concussion protocols, having been forced off against Barcelona following a blow to the head.
Kieran Trippier limped off late on against Barca and even if only cramp and/or fatigue, I can’t see him starting today.
So where does that leave us?
This is my predicted Newcastle team v Bournemouth:
Pope, Livramento, Thiaw, Burn, Hall, Tonali, Bruno, Joelinton, Willock, Woltemade, Murphy
If this proved the reality, it would see five changes to the eleven that started against Barcelona.
Thiaw looked a class act when replacing Schar on Thursday and a major shock if the Germany international doesn’t start today.
The same with Lewis Hall, unless Eddie Howe still thinks he isn’t physically fully match fit after having surgery earlier this year. Either with or without Hall coming in, I think there is also a possibility of the NUFC Head Coach changing to three central defenders and wing-backs this afternoon. Especially so if certain other players further up the pitch aren’t ok to start. Sven Botman of course is another great option and if he is back to full fitness, no surprise if he comes back into the team at any time.
On balance though I think we will see a back four in place, with Thiaw and Hall coming in.
If they are all physically ok to do so, then I think the usual midfield trio will start. With instead Bradford in the cup seeing at least two of the three on the bench.
Nick Woltemade is set to start and my money is on Murphy to also come back in.
I have a feeling that Eddie Howe will look to keep back both Barnes and Elanga as impact subs this afternoon, Joe Willock to likely play on the left.
