Looking at this Newcastle team v Wolves.

Only 24 hours or so away now, from proper football returning after this tedious first international break.

Newcastle United having started the season with very good performances against Villa and Liverpool that deserved more than the solitary point gained out of six.

Then for the away match at Leeds just before the internationals, Eddie Howe heavily impacted by players unavailable, or not signed by that point.

The NUFC Head Coach went for a change of personnel and formation in that match at Elland Road, with no senior striker available and other constraints.

As a reminder, this was the Newcastle team v Leeds:

Pope, Trippier, Schar, Botman, Burn, Livramento, Tonali, Bruno, Ramsey, Jacob Murphy, Osula

I see plenty of changes on Saturday.

Earlier in the week I had a go at predicting the Newcastle team v Wolves and went for…

Pope, Livramento, Schar, Burn, Hall, Tonali, Bruno, Joelinton, Barnes, Wissa, Elanga

IN:

Hall, Joelinton, Barnes, Wissa, Elanga

Trippier, Botman, Ramsey, Jacob Murphy, Osula

Now I have had to revise my predicted Newcastle team v Wolves.

Eddie Howe revealing on Friday morning at his pre-match press conference, that Yoane Wissa will be missing for an unknown length of time due to a knee injury picked up on international duty.

The Head Coach also saying Jacob Ramsey is set to miss at least the next seven United matches, not returning until after the October international break at the earliest. Ramsey picking up an ankle injury in the Leeds match.

The more positive news is that Eddie Howe says everybody else is available, apart from the suspended Anthony Gordon.

My new revised predicted Newcastle team v Wolves:

Pope, Livramento, Schar, Burn, Hall, Tonali, Bruno, Joelinton, Barnes, Woltemade, Elanga

So still five changes to the starting eleven against Leeds BUT with Woltemade and not Wissa coming into the side.

Eddie Howe specifically saying Joelinton has trained well and is fit and available, having stayed to train with Newcastle, dropping out of the Brazil squad after missing the Leeds game through injury.

I have seen some Newcastle fans wondering if Bruno will be rested on Saturday.

Brazil had two pretty meaningless internationals this past week, having already qualified for the 2026 World Cup finals. Yet the NUFC captain played every minute of both games.

Bruno Guimaraes scoring in the 3-0 win over Chile.

However, what on earth was Carlo Ancelotti doing in the game against Bolivia, which was in the early hours of Wednesday (UK time) and played at over 13,000 feet. The Brazil boss changed nine of his ten outfield players BUT kept Bruno Guimaraes in his starting eleven AND didn’t even sub him off in the final stages.

Bruno has proved to be an absolute machine since arriving at Newcastle United, playing pretty much every match apart from the odd suspension, hardly ever injured. I expect the NUFC captain to still start on Saturday but just hope the reckless Ancelotti handling of the Newcastle star doesn’t backfire on the midfielder and Newcastle United.
