After Wrexham’s defeat at Watford, Southampton can climb above their Welsh play-off rivals on goal difference by beating Norwich City at St Mary’s on Wednesday. According to Sainstmarching.com, that sets up a selection call for Tonda Eckert.
Léo Scienza, groin, and Ross Stewart are likely bench options, so newcomer Cyle Larin again leads the line. Eckert might revert to 4-2-3-1, yet rotation is likely, with a predicted 4-1-4-1.
Goalkeeper Daniel Peretz has impressed since January and his display at Coventry City helped extend the unbeaten run to 12 matches. Right-back James Bree contained Ephron Mason-Clark and his corner led to Kuryu Matsuki’s winner. He will start.
Taylor Harwood-Bellis made 10 clearances at Coventry and is enjoying an outstanding season. Jack Stephens is expected to partner him, with Joshua Quarshie in contention. Ryan Manning scored in the reverse fixture and, with Welington still out, will continue at left-back.
Cameron Bragg can anchor midfield if Eckert keeps a five. Flynn Downes, now free of a suspension threat, scored at Coventry and was man of the match. He is virtually undroppable. Shea Charles might start to keep Caspar Jander fresh for Oxford United at the weekend.
Tom Fellows could return on the right to keep Matsuki fresh. On the left, Finn Azaz excelled against Coventry then moved centrally to good effect. Larin will again spearhead the attack, with Stewart available from the bench.
