We take a look at some players who could make Coventry City big money in the future

It's been a shaky start to the 2024/25 campaign for Coventry City, and the Sky Blues faithful will be expecting results to improve in the very near future.

Mark Robins has assembled a quality side and would have hoped to have been in the mix for the play-offs at the very minimum, but there's still plenty of time to turn things around, just like they did two years ago, reaching the play-off final after a poor start to the season.

Given some of the players they have at their disposal, it wouldn't be a surprise to see transfer interest in some members of their squad, either in January or next summer, particularly if the club aren't competing at the right end of the Championship table.

The Sky Blues know all too well about selling players for big money following Viktor Gyokeres and Gus Hamer's departures to Sporting Lisbon and Sheffield United in the summer of 2023, and unfortunately, there's always a possibility that you'll have to sell players that have performed well, such is football's pecking order.

With that in mind, here are the two players who could be Coventry City's next big money departures.

Ben Sheaf

This inclusion won't come as a surprise to Coventry City supporters, or avid watchers of the Championship, as Ben Sheaf has cemented his status as one of the division's best players in recent seasons.

The 26-year-old has actually made a slow start to the season thanks to injury, but there's no doubt that when he recovers and returns to full fitness he'll be the first name on Robins' teamsheet and will undoubtedly help the Sky Blues move up the Championship table.

The former Arsenal man still has two years left on his deal, so it's still feasible that he could depart for big money in the future, and he'll certainly continue to attract interest when he returns from injury if he's able to perform at the same level as he was last season.

Sheaf certainly hasn't been short of interest in the past, with the likes of Fulham and Ipswich Town keen on him in the summer, as per The Sun, while even Manchester United were linked with him after impressing for the Sky Blues in their FA Cup semi-final against Erik ten Hag's men.

It's not overdoing it to say that Sheaf is a Premier League-standard player, and he could certainly depart for big money should he wish to leave the CBS Arena.

Ellis Simms

Both Ellis Simms and Haji Wright have impressed for Coventry City since joining in the summer of 2023 and have very similar goalscoring records, but we've opted for Simms here as he is English and younger than Wright.

Simms joined the Sky Blues from Everton last summer for a fee of £3.5million, which could rise to £8million in add-ons, and after a slow start, he's impressed for Coventry.

The 23-year-old scored 19 times last season, six of those coming in the FA Cup, including two away to Wolves to seal the Sky Blues' place in the semi-finals of the tournament.

As a relatively young striker who has shown he can score goals, there's every chance that he could depart for a big fee if he continues to find the back of the net on a regular basis, and with a contract until 2027, Coventry could command a hefty fee for him.

It was quite surprising not to see transfer interest in Simms during the most recent transfer window given his goalscoring exploits last season, but another season like that at Coventry and you feel as if the club could well sell him for a considerable transfer fee.
