Newcastle will take on Liverpool in the much-anticipated EFL Cup final at Wembley Stadium. Eddie Howe has a brilliant opportunity to cement his name in the Newcastle history books if his team can win a major domestic silverware after 70 years.
The last time Newcastle won a major domestic trophy was in 1955 when they lifted the FA Cup by defeating Manchester City. Jackie Milburn, Bobby Mitchell, and George Hannah got on the score sheet for the Magpies as they beat Manchester City by 3-1 at Wembley.
The current Newcastle squad will also have the same opportunity to write their names in the history books for this great football club. So, which player will Eddie Howe pick to start this Liverpool vs Newcastle game? Here we are predicting the Newcastle lineup to face Liverpool in the EFL Cup final.
Let’s begin this Newcastle predicted line vs Liverpool in the EFL Cup final with the formation. Eddie Howe’s men have done well with the 4-3-3 formation. So, the Newcastle boss is expected to keep the same formation for this crucial Liverpool vs Newcastle game.
Now, let’s talk about the goalkeeper first. Martin Dubravka played well in both the semi-finals against Arsenal. But, Nick Pope also did well in the Premier League. But, Eddie Howe will start his best XI for this Liverpool vs Newcastle EFL Cup final. So, Pope might get the nod ahead of Dubravka.
In the defence for the Magpies, Lewis Hall, Sven Botman, and Jamal Lascelles are all out due to injuries. So, it will be interesting to see who will start. In their last Premier League game, Newcastle played Kieran Trippier as the right-back.
Fabian Schar and Dan Burn (who got an England call as well) started as the centre-backs. And, Tino Livramento started as the left-back. It is expected that these four will start in the backline for the Magpies in this Liverpool vs Newcastle EFL Cup final.
As far as the midfield goes for Newcastle in the EFL Cup final, Eddie Howe will look to stick with the players he started against West Ham in the Premier League. So, the Brazilian, Joelinton will start alongside his compatriot Bruno Guimaraes.
The Italian midfield maestro, Sandro Tonali will also retain his place at the heart of Newcastle’s midfield. Here, it is important to mention that if Joelinton plays upfront, then there is a chance that Joe Willock might come into the midfield as well.
When it comes to the attack for Eddie Howe in this Liverpool vs Newcastle EFL Cup final, it will be interesting to see who starts from the left. With Anthony Gordon suspended for this game, which will be a big miss for Newcastle, Harvey Barnes will be the obvious choice as he also started the game against West Ham.
Alexander Isak will be the obvious choice to lead the attack for the Magpies as he is by far the best striker in the English top division this season. And, from the right, Newcastle fans might see Jacob Murphy start as he has done a decent job so far.
But, it is quite obvious that Newcastle needs to invest and get a good replacement for the departed Miguel Almiron who used to operate from the right for Newcastle.
