The Premier League and Manchester City have reached a settlement in relation to Associated Party Transaction (APT) rules.

In February, City initiated new legal action against the Premier League, as the club challenged rules regarding associated party transactions.

The two organisations were in dispute after City’s initial challenge to the rules, that control how much money can be generated through sponsorship from companies connected to the club’s ownership. The rules were introduced to ensure all sponsorship deals are of fair value.

Manchester City have now released a statement to say a settlement has been reached. In the statement, City say the settlement ‘brings an end’ to the dispute and that legal proceedings have been terminated. City also state that the club ‘accepts that the current APT Rules are valid and binding’.

“The Premier League and Manchester City FC have reached a settlement in relation to the arbitration commenced by the club earlier this year concerning the Premier League’s Associated Party Transaction (APT) Rules and as a result the parties have agreed to terminate the proceedings.

“This settlement brings an end to the dispute between the parties regarding the APT Rules. As part of the settlement, Manchester City accepts that the current APT Rules are valid and binding.

“It has been agreed that neither the Premier League nor the club will be making any further comment about the matter.”
