Premier League: At 15, Max Dowman makes his debut and enters the history books
The Premier League has just witnessed the arrival of another precocious talent. Max Dowman, a young English midfielder aged just 15 years and 235 days, made his debut on Saturday during the match between Arsenal and Leeds United.
Brought on in the second half by Mikel Arteta, the teenager became the second youngest player ever to appear in the Premier League, just behind Ethan Nwaneri (15 years and 181 days).
On the Emirates Stadium pitch, Arsenal were in complete control, securing a commanding 4-0 win thanks to a brace from Jurriën Timber and goals from Bukayo Saka and Viktor Gyökeres. With a comfortable lead, Arteta gave several youngsters a chance, including Dowman. The prodigy showed no nerves: he pulled off a few impressive moves and even won the penalty that Gyökeres converted late in the match.
Former Liverpool captain Jamie Redknapp didn’t hide his admiration:
I have never seen a boy with such quality on the pitch. I am convinced he will become one of the best English players in history.
After the match, Mikel Arteta was also full of praise for his young player:
Here is a kid who has no hesitation and is so convinced that, at 15 years old, he can step onto the pitch and deliver. I’ve never seen anything like it in my life.
A debut that lives up to the hype: Max Dowman is already being touted as a future star of English football.
