With the new Premier League season edging nearer, expected key Leeds United rivals have brought in new defenders, with Sunderland and Coventry City among those active.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Arsenal have signed Illan Meslier on a free after his Leeds exit and made Piero Hincapie’s move permanent for £25m. Leandro Trossard has joined Besiktas for £15.3m, with Jakub Kiwior moving to Porto and Karl Hein to Werder Bremen after loans.

Aston Villa have landed Johan Manzambi from Freiburg for £50m and agreed a pre-contract for Modou Keba Cisse. Youri Tielemans has joined Manchester United for £35m.

Bournemouth have signed Alvaro Rodriguez from Elche for £21m. Marcos Senesi has joined Tottenham as his contract expired, and Luis Sinisterra has completed a permanent move to Cruizeiro after a loan. Andoni Iraola has departed to become Liverpool’s head coach.

Brighton have brought in Luka Vuskovic from Tottenham for £50m and Leeds defender Pascal Struijk for £20m. Jan Paul van Hecke has joined Tottenham for £52m, while James Milner has retired. Chelsea have signed Marco Palestra from Atalanta for £43m and Geovany Quenda from Sporting Lisbon for £40m, agreed a £117m deal for Morgan Rogers, and appointed Xabi Alonso. Exits include Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid for £51.8m and Tyrique George to Everton for £18m, with further loans completed.
