The Premier League will reportedly only have one match schedule for Boxing Day this year.

That's according to a well-sourced report from the Times which claims that the English top flight will ditch its traditional post-Christmas round of games for the first time.

The Premier League is one of the few divisions in Europe that has kept up a round of matches immediately post-Christmas Day with football in England not taking a break like its German and Spanish counterparts.

And although football will still be played over the festive period this year, games will instead take place on the weekend between Yule Tide and New Year, with most matches on December 27 and 28.

The report from the Times claims that just one match will be scheduled for Boxing Day although the Football League will keep playing on December 26.
