As a Newcastle United fan though, have a look at this weekend’s other Premier League fixtures and have a think about what you’d like to happen and what is likely in terms of results.

All nine other Premier League fixtures will of course have been completed by the time the Hammers visit St James’ Park.

My Conclusions

I think fair to say that it is maybe only now, that we can have a look at something like this.

In terms of now hopefully looking up the table, wondering which other results might help and not hinder us.

Taking this approach, I think a lot of the Premier League fixtures this weekend do give us many easy answers as to who we should want to win (and lose!).

Can they deliver though???

The opening fixture is an easy one, hopefully Leicester can get something, despite Chelsea of some points. The Foxes have won one and drawn two at home and conceded only seven in their first five PL home matches, so here’s hoping.

Forest are of course above Newcastle United ahead of the weekend but another easy one for me, in hoping that ideally they win at Arsenal, or at least restrict the Gunners to one point. Forest are yet to lose away from home this season, winning three and two draws, only conceding four in five games. Indeed, in 12 matches (all competitions, home and away) Forest have only lost three times and two of those were against Newcastle, whilst they have conceded four of their eleven goals against NUFC.

Villa carried massive luck early in the season and now in their last seven domestic matches they have won only one of them. One of those six of last seven they failed to win, was when losing at home to Palace 2-1 in the League Cup. I fancy a so far poor Palace to at least get a draw today.

I suppose I should want Everton to win but I can’t bring myself to do that, when it is only in order to deprive Brentford of points. I suppose the most likely result and one I would be happy with, is the typical bore you to death Sean Dyche home draw against the Bees today.

Fair play to Fulham but difficult to see them towards the top later in the season. However, no harm if Wolves take something off them today, which is possible. Wolves not quite as woeful as their results suggest so far.

Man City v Tottenham is a tricky one. Maybe I should be dreaming of the stars and wanting Man City to lose, so Newcastle could move within two points of them if beating West Ham. However, the smart move is surely to accept NUFC very unlikely to finish above Man City (unless they are relegated or deducted loads of points due to the PL charges!), so if Newcastle win and Tottenham lose this weekend, Eddie Hwoe’s side move five points ahead of Spurs.

It is bottom v top, Southampton v Liverpool.

Unlikely to happen but great if the scousers drop any points. I think Liverpool deserve to be top but have carried a lot of luck in having as many as 28 points from 11 games. At least as well that you can say whilst Southampton have lost all six PL away matches and conceded 13 goals, they have at least won one and drawn one whilst conceding eight goals in five PL games at home.

Another ‘good v evil’ fixture where there is a winner we’d all choose, is Ipswich v Man U.

Ipswich have played decent football at times and maybe only PL inexperience has cost them a decent number of points. They have managed draws against Villa, Brighton and Fulham, plus got that massive away win in their last PL match at Tottenham, which they fully deserved. Man U may have a new manager but it is the same players, no reason why Ipswich can’t get at least a draw.
