Having made no additions to their squad in the last winter transfer window, FC Barcelona are expected to reinforce their team in the upcoming summer window, with a particular focus on strengthening the flanks.

Specifically, the Blaugrana are targeting a left-winger and two full-backs to enhance both their attacking and defensive depth.

However, to facilitate these desired additions, the Catalans must raise a significant amount of money. While selling some fringe players remains an option, another potential revenue stream lies in the sale of former players on whom Barcelona still hold financial rights.

One such player who looks increasingly likely to switch clubs this summer is Francisco Trincão, who is enjoying an impressive season at Sporting CP.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Trincão’s dazzling form has thrust him back into the spotlight, attracting interest from two Premier League clubs.

The 25-year-old Portuguese winger has recorded 9 goals and 13 assists in 40 appearances this season—a stark contrast to his struggles at Camp Nou. For Barcelona, his resurgence presents a financial opportunity, thanks to a smartly negotiated sell-on clause from his 2023 exit.

Trincão’s career has undergone a remarkable transformation since leaving Catalonia. Signed by Barcelona from Sporting Braga in 2020 for €31 million, he managed just three goals in 42 appearances before an underwhelming loan spell at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

In 2022, Sporting CP initially signed him on loan for €3 million before securing a permanent transfer a year later for €7 million. That investment has since proven astute, as Trincão has evolved into a key player for Sporting and one of the standout performers in the Primeira Liga.

While Barcelona are no longer in the race for his services, they stand to benefit financially. As part of his transfer to Sporting, the Blaugrana retained a 50% sell-on clause on any future profit.

With Trincão’s release clause set at €80 million and his contract running until 2026, a big-money move could see Barcelona earn a substantial sum without lifting a finger. Sporting, meanwhile, has initiated talks to extend his deal, aiming to ward off suitors and further increase his market value.

Premier League Giants Show Interest in Former Barcelona winger

Interest in Trincão is heating up in England, particularly in Manchester. According to reports from A Bola, both Rúbén Amorim, Manchester United’s head coach, and Hugo Viana, Manchester City’s Sporting Director, are closely monitoring the Portuguese international.

The report highlights Trincão’s significant contributions this season, with the winger amassing 3,468 minutes across 40 matches, making him one of Sporting CP’s most relied-upon players.

For Barcelona, Trincão’s resurgence is a bittersweet affair. The club’s decision to offload him in 2022 raised eyebrows, particularly given the modest €7 million fee Sporting paid.

Yet, the sell-on clause ensures Barcelona won’t miss out entirely. If Sporting were to sell Trincão for €60 million, for instance, Barcelona would pocket €26.5 million—half of the €53 million profit over Sporting’s initial outlay.

Should his price tag rise closer to his release clause, the windfall would be even greater. For a club navigating financial challenges, this unexpected windfall could prove invaluable.
