An in-depth performance review of Southampton's upcoming competitors Tottenham Hotspur and a deep-dive into their recent Premier League meetings.

Following two new coaching hires, Southampton are set to meet Tottenham Hotspur again. If you are surprised with this statement, then Russell Martin was the Southampton manager last time where the Spurs netted five times in the first half to spark his Saints exit.

Since then, Simon Rusk and Ivan Juric have guided Southampton with the duo making almost a similar-paced progress as Martin was doing. Regardless, it's the Saints who took an upward stride in the previous matchday while Sunday's hosts endured a narrow loss.

Now, call it coincidence but this Tottenham meeting can see their manager receiving his departure orders similar to what Martin underwent last year.

Tottenham Hotspur's results haven't gone to plan like Southampton

This miserable situation is enough to summarise how dismal Tottenham have been in the ongoing Premier League season. As opposed to their usual performances, wins have been far and few which has led Spurs to remain bottom-table for a significant duration.

Still, they belong to the Premier League's Big-Six and those teams cannot be ruled out from winning on any occasion.

Evidently, no Saint needs to look further than their Europa League efforts where they have aptly presented their silverware-winning capabilities. Talking about their roster, Spurs have a commendable depth in their attacking ranks which can score any amount of goals when they get going.

Heung-Min Son, James Maddison and Brennan Johnson are their standout stars while shot-stopper Guglielmo Vicario managed a clean sheet at St. Mary's.

As expected, the head-to-head tally is also tilted in Tottenham's favour by a heavy margin. In fact, the Londoners have scored a mammoth twelve goals in front of Southampton in the previous three fixtures.

If the Saints couldn't find a way to nullify their counterpart's attack, then they must be prepared to add another gigantic defeat to their already subpar displays. On the other hand, a hard-fought draw is another likely outcome and simply put, the more appreciable one from Southampton's perspective.
