Monday night was a chastening one for Manchester United.

Erik ten Hag's side reached a nadir in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era with the Red Devils now in eighth place, having lost more games (13) this term than in any previous campaign in Premier League history.

Selhurst Park was the location for their new low with Crystal Palace embarrassing United from start to finish in a 4-0 win.

Pretty much all 11 starters impressed for Oliver Glasner's side but it was Michael Olise who truly stood out in a remarkable win for the south London side.

It's been a frustrating season for the 22-year-old, who really burst on to the scene last season with two goals in 37 Premier League appearances.

This was then supposed to be the campaign that helped establish Olise as one of the most exciting wide players in the division but a hamstring injury completely curtailed his start to the season and, in effect, ended former manager Roy Hodgson's reign at the club.

Returning fully at the start of April though, it's been like Olise was never really away.

The youngster has netted nine times so far with the latest pair coming in Monday's obliteration of United.

The first strike came after 12 minutes as Olise took the ball just inside the United half, shrugged off Christian Eriksen with a neat touch before shimmying past Casemiro as the Brazil international saw his Premier League career go down the drain.

Olise then galloped forward with the ball before firing a low shot past Andre Onana from 20 yards.

His second then wrapped up the win after the break as once again Casemiro was made to the look like an afterthought at this level.

The former Real Madrid man was caught trying to shepherd the ball out of play for a goal kick and instead allowed Daniel Muñoz to steal possession and pass back to Olise on the edge of the area.

The France under-21 international then rifled in an effort that up-ended Onana and swerved past the Cameroonian's left-hand.

The goals will of course grab the headlines but it was Olise's general play that was equally impressive this weekend.

He was, at times, unplayable with Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher calling the forward "brilliant" and able to "walk into Manchester United's team".

His mix of technical ability, blistering pace and tactical acumen mean Olise is almost the complete modern player and one that will surely be at the very top, very soon.

New Palace boss Oliver Glasner, meanwhile, was quick to shut down any speculation that Olise could leave the club in the summer with United - along with Manchester City and Liverpool - one of the sides heavily linked with his services.

“Not the moment to talk about next season. It is May and still very cold," the Austrian coach said with a smile.

Under Glasner's tutelage though, Olise is clearly getting better and better with every training session and would do well to stick with Palace for a while longer yet.
